Swimming is tough!

Swimming is tough!

Earlier this year when the idea of a triathlon first was being bounced around in my mind I decided I need to learn how to swim. Not that I didn't know how to swim as a child I had taken swimming lessons and I could get from point A to point B in the water without too much trouble, but it wasn't pretty. So learning to swim! It was on!

Swimming is hard! You have to move your feet and arms at the same time, while remembering to turn your head and breathe. Three activities at the same, for a girl whose middle name is clumsy; this is very difficult. I have to say the breathing thing (the most necessary thing) is the hardest. You have to turn your head while still keeping most of it in the water and look up at the ceiling and take a breath, while still moving your arms and legs.

Today I went for a swim. My swimming has improved a lot since the first swimming lesson, since I was small. Today I swam a total of 10 laps; fastest lap was 54 seconds (freestyle stroke), slowest lap 2:30 minutes (swimming with a kick board, workin' the legs).

In the triathlon I need to swim 300 yards, freestyle the whole time, and have energy to complete the bike leg and run leg. Still work to do on the swimming front! You know what they say, practice make perfect, but hopefully practice also makes easier, because swimming is tough!

Dare to try a Tri!

Dare to try a Tri!

Triathlon training starting now! Well really yesterday! Well really it's been started for a while, but the real training starts now.

Here's the goal: Tiger Tri http://www.republictigertri.com/

300 yard swim followed by a 12 mile bike ride followed by a 5K run.

Along the way I will document exciting training adventures, ideas collected, and the fun experience of training for a race.
